Verification & examination

Nobody keeps a name without confirming the mailbox on it. This page describes the code step, what happens to an unconfirmed hold, and how paid classes are examined.

#Confirming your mailbox

Reserving a name emails you a 6-digit code. Entering it on the page:

1. confirms the mailbox,
2. flips the hold from unverified to verified,
3. signs you in (your SuperFile Account is born at this moment), and
4. sends the welcome email.

The code can be resent from the same page. Four places create reservations — the home page, the registry page, the AI specialist chat and the dashboard — and all of them run the same code step, except the dashboard, where you are already signed in and the mailbox was proven then.

A reservation paid through Stripe checkout does not ask for a code: the payment itself validates the buyer.

#What happens to an unconfirmed hold

A free hold that is never confirmed does not keep the name forever.

• After 24 hours unconfirmed, the hold passes its window.
• We send a reminder ("confirm or lose it"), and the hold then has 72 hours to answer. A hold that was never reminded is never released.
• After that, the hold becomes releasable. Release is lazy by design: the name reads as available to the next person who checks, and is actually released only when somebody else claims it. Confirm late and you keep your name unless someone has already taken it.
• Addresses that can never receive mail are released after 24 hours without a reminder.

Paid and invited holds are never released this way. A released name can be restored by SuperFile Support if nobody has claimed it in the meantime; it comes back as a fresh unconfirmed hold.

#Examination for Brand and Institution names

Brand and Institution claims are examined by hand before registration. You will be asked for evidence that you are entitled to the name — a trademark registration, company records, or for an Institution the .gov or .mil mailbox the reservation came from. Unverified reservations are still allowed and are honoured first come, first served; a competing claim with better evidence is decided under the examination policy in the Terms & Conditions. The register never charges for examination.

#Verifying a registration

Every registered name carries a registration number and a ledger entry on SuperChain. Anyone can confirm a registration on the public register without an account; the Transparency Report publishes aggregate figures on holds, releases and examinations.
